Arizona Laws on Felony Records Access

The Arizona Public Records Law under Title 39 covers government records outside the courts. Police and sheriff records fall under this law. A.R.S. Section 41-1750 sets up the Central State Repository at DPS for statewide criminal history data. However, DPS cannot run background checks for private employers in Arizona. You need to use court records directly or a third-party service for that purpose.

If you have a felony conviction in Maricopa County, you may be able to seal your record. A.R.S. Section 13-911 allows sealing after you complete your sentence and wait the required time. The waiting period is 10 years for class 2 or 3 felonies and 5 years for class 4, 5, or 6 felonies. Some serious offenses cannot be sealed at all.

Note: Sealing does not erase the record, but it limits who can see it.
